Very interesting data. I look forward to hearing from you in 10 years to see if anything has changed (i.e. the attitudes are also impacted by the generation of the respondent.) Once again, your studies have described me to a T! I have noticed a total shift in my consumer and giving attitudes from always bargain hunting to doing things to support a cause or my own community.

I just watched James Chung give a speech at the AGM of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in Paris during a debate entitled "What is the crisis changing for museums?".

For me, the most interesting point was the way that the ageing population in western countries and especially the USA might help combat government funding cuts during the crisis due to this evidence that as people get older, they are more pre-disposed to philanthropy and perhaps more keen to become part of a community.

This idea of community around cultural institutions is one that is being discussed a lot on the web, particularly around the idea of Web 2.0, social networks and new media. Is there any evidence that social media can be used to help attract older generations to give money or is it only worth targeting online projects at younger generations? I suppose my question is, can you see any way that the two things (ageing population and explosion of social networks) might go hand in hand or are they likely to be mutually exclusive for a little while yet?

The talk was great by the way!
